Josie and I have any interests and one of them is SHOPPING! We stumbled upon Stradivarius, a clothing store, that could be compared to a combination of Forever21 and H&M. We spent about 2 hours in this store and I was finally able to find the Italian fashion coat.

I knew that before coming to Italy, their fashion would be stunning. I noticed so many people in long coats in each city we visited. I’m not surprised by this because it seems like Italian people are quite concerned with their attire and experienced with layering. I’m not used to layering but I gave it a try after my shopping spree and I absolutely love it.

Not only is layering important, but I realize that comfort is just as important. Comfort doesn’t mean what we, as Americans, would think of which is wearing a long t-shirt, shorts/leggings, and Birkenstocks/tennis shoes. In Italy, I realized comfort means dress in nice clothes that you can walk miles in and still look good doing so. Some outfits could be wearing a cute, thin top with jeans, a coat, and stylish, but comfortable shoes you can walk miles in. I haven’t seen anyone wearing what I see daily on UAB’s campus, T-shirt and leggings. I enjoy seeing everyone nicely dressed because it encourages me to dress just as nice. Whenever I dress nice, I feel happy and confident about starting my days. There’s also been studies that show when people dress nice, their performance and confidence levels are better (https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/dress-for-success-how-clothes-influence-our-performance/ https://www.inc.com/molly-reynolds/research-shows-that-the-clothes-you-wear-actually-change-the-way-you-perform.html).

I leave this experience of observing the fashion in Italy with a desire to dress the way I have been here as much as I possibly can in Birmingham. I have always had a love for fashion, but actually getting to experience it in Italy has been given me a wonderful perspective. I hope that everyone leaves Italy with a different perspective on their own personal clothing. I understand why Dr. Bunn’s fashion is the way it is now! Wearing layers and prioritizing comfort while, also, being stylish is how I hope my personal fashion trend will be from now on. I encourage you all to dress similar to how you have been during the trip. Everyone was nicely dressed and I hope you all notice the boost of confidence and performance throughout the week.
